** The above steps should be started prior to you moving on to the first part of unit 1. I want to ensure that if you do desire to start your own tax preparation business for next season that you have all needed requirements to serve as a Tax Professional with IRS Record of Completion as an Annual Filing Season Preparer.

Below are reasons why becoming an Annual Filing Season Preparer 3rd party course is included in this course and a mandatory requirement for a Monique Je' Certified Tax Professional:

In addition to being included in the public directory of tax return preparers, the Annual Filing Season Program – Record of Completion differentiates you in the marketplace. The IRS launched a public education campaign in January 2015 encouraging taxpayers to select return preparers carefully and seek those with professional credentials or other select qualifications.

Also, as of Jan. 1, 2016, there will be changes to the representation rights of return preparers.

Attorneys, CPAs, and enrolled agents will continue to be the only tax professionals with unlimited representation rights, meaning they can represent their clients on any matters including audits, payment/collection issues, and appeals.

Annual Filing Season Program participants will have limited representation rights, meaning they can represent clients whose returns they prepared and signed, but only before revenue agents, customer service representatives, and similar IRS employees, including the Taxpayer Advocate Service.

PTIN holders without an Annual Filing Season Program – Record of Completion or other professional credential will only be permitted to prepare tax returns. For returns prepared and signed after December 31, 2015, they will not be allowed to represent clients before the IRS. Please Click here to apply for your PTIN number(No Later than November 7, 2023) which will be required to receive your AFSP Record of completion once finishde with the Monique Je Academy & IRS 3rd Party course certification. If you plan to have your Fingerprints submitted by no later than November 10, 2023 you can potentially be approved to for the 2024 program. The 3rd party course and exam must be passed successfully to receive the Record of Completion by no later than December 31, 2023. Your login information for the 3rd party course will be provided to you after successful completion of the Non-Software portion of our course and you have paid for a PTIN for tax year 2024.

*Note to do this successfully our non-software portion of our course must be completed no later than November 20th along with finger prints being submitted and PTIN applied for and received. Please email [email protected] when the PTIN number document has been received from IRS, the official letter and or card must be sent and student will then be provided 3rd party course login information as long as all other requirements are met.

The following information is required to get started: - A readily available email address - Social Security number - Filing status and address from last filed tax return - Personal account number from a credit card, or home mortgage loan, home equity loan, home equity line of credit or car loan - A readily available mobile device Upon approval of the E-Services account, the applicant must then call the IRS to receive a fingerprint card to complete their application to become an IRS E-File Provider. After the finger print card is signed and complete, it must be mailed to the address provided by the IRS. Lastly, to become an Annual Filing Season Preparer, a 3rd party course is required which provides the Record of Completion to differentiate tax professionals from other return preparers. This Record of Completion gives those with it limited representation rights and the ability to represent their clients' returns before IRS agents.
